Road Safety In Buntingford

Dear Resident,

Do you regularly visit Buntingford High Street? Did you know that Church Street is a one-way street from the junction with Buntingford High Street, all the way down to The Fox & Duck Pub Car Park near the River Rib?
 

If you pass the “No Entry” signs at the bottom of the road, or your vehicle exits Church Street via the junction with the High Street, even if you are just reversing out to turn around, you will have committed an offence, namely: driving up a one-way street in the wrong direction, contrary to the signage, Section 36(1) of the Road Traffic Act 1988, the Traffic Signs Regulations & General Directions 2016 and schedule 2 of the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988.

This is obviously very dangerous for other road users and pedestrians on a busy road, who may not be expecting a vehicle to emerge from Church Street onto the High Street.

There are regular instances of vehicles driving the length of Church Street in the wrong direction, with over fifty drivers, caught in person or on CCTV, being issued tickets by Hertfordshire Police. We would ask that you are always mindful of the roads, signage and Highway Code, to ensure that everyone in our community remains safe at all times.
